Thanks for reading my blog!

So… you have been working in the hair and beauty industry for many years now and you want to start teaching the amazing knowledge and experience you have gained over the years. You may have looked for hair and beauty teaching jobs or checked how awarding bodies such as VTCT and City Guilds can support you when teaching your own accredited courses? Understanding what qualifications are required to teach hair and beauty can be quite overwhelming!

To teach accredited courses you must start by achieving the Award in Education and Training Level 3. The AIE was previously called PTLLS and was changed to help students choose their own units to suit individual job roles. To achieve the AIE you do not have to be teaching and can deliver a 15 minute micro teach to provide an understanding of planning and delivering a lesson. However, if you are teaching at present you can base your work on a lesson you currently deliver.

Since September 2007 in England, anyone with a teaching role in the Further Education sector is required to complete a level 3 teaching qualification within their first year of teaching. Once you have achieved the Award in Education and Training you can then progress onto the Certificate or Diploma level 5 years and can then apply for QTLS (Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills)

So what awarding body should I look at for my qualification?

DB Training Ltd are supported by VTCT that specialise in the hair, beauty and fitness sector and tutors and trainers are hair and beauty qualified with over 30 years of teaching experience between them! DB Training understanding how demanding the hair and beauty industry is (and the hours of work too) so distance learning is used to support all qualifications and we give all students the option for corporate visits too.
